Ceremony Options for your Tipi Wedding

One of the many joys of a tipi wedding is the flexibility to tailor your ceremony to whatever suits you and your vision for the day. Whether you want a fully licensed venue, a celebrant-led outdoor ceremony, or something in between, there’s an option to suit every couple. Here are some popular choices to help you decide:

Full Day at a Licensed Venue

If you’ve found a licensed venue for your tipi wedding, you can celebrate your entire day in one location. This means you’ll have a legally binding ceremony on-site, before moving seamlessly into the festivities in the tipis.

Two licensed venues we love working with are One Ash Weddings and Papplewick Pumping Station. These stunning locations allow you to tie the knot and party the day away under the same roof—or rather, under the canvas of our beautiful tipis!

Full Day at a Non-Licensed Venue

Most tipi weddings we work on take place at non-licensed venues like private fields, gardens, or open spaces. If this is your choice, you can still have a ceremony at the tipis by booking a celebrant—or even asking a friend to officiate!

While this ceremony won’t be legally binding, it can feel every bit as special and personal as a traditional wedding. To make it official, you’ll need to pop to the registry office on a separate day to sign the paperwork. You can keep this part low-key or turn it into a mini celebration with close family, a meal, or photos to mark the occasion.

Ceremony Followed by Tipi Reception

If getting legally married on the same day as your tipi celebration is important to you, you can opt for a more traditional ceremony at a licensed venue, church, or registry office earlier in the day. Afterward, you and your guests can travel to the tipis for your reception.

Church ceremonies are a popular choice for couples with a tipi reception, as are local registry offices or wedding venues offering ceremony-only packages. For a fun twist, why not transport your guests to the tipis in style? One of our favourite memories is a wedding party arriving on a red double-decker bus!

There’s No Right or Wrong Way

Whether you choose to double up your celebrations with a separate registry office visit or go for a celebrant-led ceremony at the tipis, there’s no “wrong” way to plan your tipi wedding. Celebrant ceremonies feel incredibly personal and unique, while licensed venues offer the ease of a single location. The choice is entirely yours, and every option works beautifully.
